Erice Science Communication and Journalism International School

Applications for the 2024 edition of the Erice International School of Science Communication and journalism are open from April 11th until May 12th.

The fellowships are aimed at science journalists, science communicators and students in science journalism and communication. Please read below for criteria.

 

Candidates should send their CV and a motivation letter in which they describe:

1 plans for their professional future

2 why they think participating in the school would benefit their career

The deadline for application is May 12th, 2024. Applications which should reach us after this date will not be taken into consideration. You will be informed of the acceptance/reject of your application by July 15th, 2024.

FELLOWSHIPS

The school offers 15 scholarships for applicants living in an EU country (fee of the school, stay fully covered and flight to Italy covered up to 500 euro+ transfer from Palermo airport only) and 5 scholarships for applicants from non-Eu (stay fully covered and trip at their own expenses).

Travel

The fellowship winners will book their own flights, which will be reimbursed (up to a maximum of €500) after the event has been concluded (our advice is to book a flight to Palermo).

Moreover, few shuttles will be scheduled for October 15th in order to take you to the ancient village of Erice. But don’t worry we will take care of that.

Accommodations

You will be provided a double room (you can suggest your roommate), with ensuite bathroom in one of the four local ancient monasteries. In order to preserve the traditional atmosphere the rooms are kept plain, with no radio or TV. You’ll be granted free wifi access though.

Accommodations are provided from October 15th (arrival date) until October 19th included.

Meals

Meals are included in the scholarship. Breakfast will be served in one of the monasteries. You’ll have lunch and dinner in local restaurants.

Special assistance

Erice is an ancient village and architectural barriers are frequent also in the accommodations. If you require special assistance please let us know what assistance you require at time of confirmation to ensure you receive the best support. 

ELIGIBILITY

The fellowships are aimed at:

 

Young Science Journalists

At least 2 years of professional experience working/freelancing for general or popular science media.

 

Science Communicators

At least 2 years of professional experience working in a scientific organization, science museum or science centre or as a freelancer in a position of press officer, curator, editor of (web) publications, organizer of outreach activities or similar.

 

Students

Students who have completed a master’s degree or Phd in science journalism or science communication in the previous five years.

 

Age limit

The maximum age for participation in the school is 35 years for students applying to the European fellowships and 40 years for students applying for the extra-eu fellowship
